The Model Legislature and Court (MLC) program brings together a cross-section of the state's high school students for a six-month, learn-by-doing experience that teaches the values of democracy. High school students throughout Greater Long Beach and its neighboring cities meet in local delegations to discuss major issues facing California. Delegates will learn major leadership, planning, and social skills that will prepare them for two major conferences and for the future. The delegates utilize the skills they are taught to draft legislation and select government positions to role-play.

Weekly meeting details:
Day/Time: Thursdays from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM (September 2025 – February 2026)
Location: 4801 Airport Plaza Drive, Suite 400, Long Beach, CA 90815
Program Fee: $1,450*
*A $100 buy-in is required before attending the first conference (Camp Roberts). Payment is due by October 23, 2026.
The remaining program balance must be paid in full by December 29, 2026.

Please note, the program fee is $1,400, however your program fee may be reduced depending on your financial assistance application, your scholarship will be applied as soon as you return your financial assistance application. Lead Advisor, Angelica Cortez will manually adjust your program fee once your financial aid application is reviewed and approved.

Steps after you complete both of the Youth and Government registrations:
Once you've completed both registrations, a Youth and Government Lead Advisor will be in contact with you to confirm your registration and additional information.
Families may qualify to pay anywhere between $100-$1,400 for the Youth and Government program, depending on the family's household income:
- Attend weekly meetings at your preferred YMCA branch on Thursday evenings
- Attend the Training & Elections Conference: San Miguel, CA October 30-November 2, 2026
- Attend the Leadership Retreat: Big Bear, CA January 16-18, 2027
- Attend the Model Legislature & Court Conference: Sacramento, CA February 11-15, 2027
- Participate in the association wide volunteer event: TBD
