We currently have in-person registration only at our gymnastic facility at 4118 South St. Lakewood, CA 90712 during enrollment hours. At that time, we can go over availability classes, fees, and future start dates. Registration must be provided in advance to provide a space for your child.
The program caters to children walking through 17 years old for girls and walking to 10 years old for boys.
You can sign up for a class at any time if there’s availability. If your child starts after the beginning of the month, we can prorate your current month’s fee based on the amount of classes they will attend for their first month.
Yes, we do offer a one-time trial class before officially enrolling with a fee. Depending on your child’s age and promotions, your trial class can range between $0 to $37.25 per child. In-person registration in advance is still required for trial classes to schedule them ahead of time. Please email Melissa.Garcia@lbymca.org to find out specific pricing for trials.
Mini Gym and Junior Ninja classes are typically six (6) per coach.
Academy Novice through Level 4 are typically to eight (8) per coach.
*Class sizes and coaches are subject to change based on the needs of staffing for a particular day.
If your child has not had any prior gymnastics experience or limited experience, then Mini Gym, Academy Novice, and Ninja classes would be best to provide fundamental basics on beam, bars, vault and floor.
Twice a year, the program conducts scheduled skill assessments for two weeks in February and October. During each class time, the gymnasts will demonstrate the skills they have been learning and then a formal evaluation of their results will be issued to parents for them to adjust their child’s class day/time if needed.
If your child already has prior experience with gymnastics training at other facilities, please contact us by email, phone, or in-person to inform us of their level of experience and to see if a formal evaluation is required.
Boys may wear an unitard or fitted shirt and shorts.
Girls may wear a leotard or unitard for each class. Common places to purchase would be Target, Wal-Mart, and Amazon. Also, in collaboration with K-Bee Leotards, the official Lakewood YMCA Gymnastics Program leotards can be purchased directly on the vendor’s website here. Please no two piece sets or bare midriffs.
For all participants, if their hair is long, it should be tied up into a ponytail or bun. Do not wear jewelry to class besides stud earrings. Avoid items with buttons or zippers, as they may snag on the equipment. No socks or shoes necessary.
Yes, we offer a 2nd child discount of $5 per each child after initial child is enrolled. Also, your child’s second day will also be discounted between $23-$48 depending on your child’s age, their class, and their status as a member since it affects their fees.
Make-up classes are offered on a quarterly basis or every 3 months for all academy levels. They must be scheduled in advance at the front desk. For levels Novice and Level 1, those are on Fridays at 4pm. For Mini Gym, we offer Friday at 5pm. All other levels not specified can schedule for another day and time, which is subject to availability.
Payments are due by the 1st of each month to keep your child’s current registration status. Enrolling for automatic payments will help ensure your child’s payment is on time.
Please submit cancellations in writing or email to Melissa.Garcia@lbymca.org by the 25th of the month prior to cancellation. Failure to do so will result in a $25 cancellation fee. Refunds are not guaranteed and are up to the Program Director’s discretion.
About twice a year, the Lakewood Family YMCA Gymnastics team holds a tryout on a selected Saturday to see who is eligible for team. These tryouts are open for either hand selected gymnasts from classes and/or all gymnasts from Academy Levels 2, 3, and 4. Information is sent out a couple of weeks prior to the tryout date to those invited through email and flyer postings.
